Howden-le-Wear Local History Society

The Society was formed in March 1995 with the aim of recording and preserving the village heritage for future generations. Its main objectives are to coordinate research into the history of Howden-le-Wear and its immediate environs, and to provide a permanent archive of heritage material in a variety of formats, which, it is hoped, will not only disseminate information to a wider audience, but will also stimulate interest in our village history. To further achieve these aims, regular monthly meetings are arranged to include topics of local interest, often with guest speakers, exhibitions are staged and a series of publications produced. The society is formally constituted with the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Committee elected at the Annual General Meeting in March.
