Arthur PATTON Private 16852, 6 th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Died 30 th May 1916. Arthur Patton was born in Fir Tree in 1892. He was brought up initially in the home of his grandfather, and by 1911 he was living with his mother and a boarder. Although Arthur was 19 at this time, he had no known occupation. He enlisted at Bishop Auckland and arrived in France serving with the 6 th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers, on the 31 st July 1915. Arthur would have seen action during the Battle of Loos in September and October 1915, and is reported to have been killed in action on the 30 th May 1916. Arthur Patton was buried at Vermelles British Cemetery in northern France.
